Introduction of Texas Doubles and Triples (T) Endorsement CDL
Texas has a new endorsement on its commercial driver’s license (CDL) that allows truck drivers to operate doubles and triples.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently began issuing the Texas Doubles and Triples (T) Endorsement CDL, which is valid for use in vehicles with more than one axle.
“The Texas Doubles and Triples Endorsement will increase safety by allowing commercial drivers to operate vehicles with more than one axle,” said TxDOT Executive Director James Bass. “This will also help our state meet the growing demand for transportation goods and services.”
The new endorsement requires applicants to pass a knowledge test, vehicle inspection and driving skills test. Effective immediately, applicants who already hold a commercial driver’s license but wish to add this endorsement may do so by passing only the driving skills test.
Who needs a Texas Doubles and Triples (T) Endorsement CDL?
You will also need to have a commercial driver’s license with air brake restriction if your vehicle exceeds 26,000 pounds GCWR.
In order to obtain this endorsement, you must:
Be at least 21 years old
Have a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with an “H” restriction for hazardous materials
Pass an examination on general knowledge about doubles/triples trucks and their use in Texas
