How to prepare for the CGPSC State Engineering Service Exam 2026 Electrical and Mechanical paper

4 min. 28/09/2026 28/09/2026

The CGPSC State Engineering Service Examination 2026 combines Electrical and Mechanical Assistant Engineer vacancies under one recruitment line, while candidates prepare the technical paper for their own engineering discipline. The most effective approach is to share the General Studies foundation with other applicants but keep technical revision, practice questions and interview preparation discipline-specific.

Clarify the combined recruitment profile

The Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission issued the State Engineering Service Examination 2026 through Advertisement No. 02/2026/Examination dated 8 May 2026. The notification announced 46 Assistant Engineer vacancies overall. Three posts were listed as Assistant Engineer Electrical/Mechanical in the Public Works Department. The official vacancy table combines these two disciplines, so a separate Electrical-versus-Mechanical vacancy split should not be invented from the common total.

Applications were accepted from 13 May to 11 June 2026, with later correction windows. The written examination took place on 16 August 2026. CGPSC published a provisional model answer and then an amended or final model answer on 2 September 2026. Candidates analysing their performance should use the final official version and should not treat unofficial answer keys as the basis for score estimates.

Learn the common paper structure

The examination has two objective papers. Paper I covers General Studies, Chhattisgarh general knowledge and reasoning-related areas. Paper II is the technical paper chosen according to the candidate’s discipline. Electrical candidates therefore prepare the Electrical Engineering syllabus, while Mechanical candidates prepare the Mechanical Engineering syllabus. The common paper does not remove the need for branch-specific study.

The published scheme describes 150 questions and 300 marks for each paper, with two and a half hours assigned to each. Paper I is provided in Hindi and English, while the technical paper is in English. The notification also provides paper-level qualifying requirements and allows the Commission to use a computer-based test depending on candidate numbers. Future recruitment notices may change details, so the current advertisement must always be checked before applying or creating a final timetable.

Organise Electrical Engineering preparation

Electrical candidates should structure revision around the subjects listed in the official syllabus. Depending on the notified outline, this normally means building command over circuit theory, electrical machines, power systems, measurements, control systems, power electronics, electrical materials, generation and transmission, utilisation, protection and related engineering fundamentals.

Do not study these subjects as disconnected formula collections. For circuit theory, check sign conventions, network methods and steady-state relationships. For machines, compare operating principles, losses, performance and applications. For power systems, revise generation, transmission, protection and system behaviour together. Measurements and control questions often reward careful interpretation, so practise reading the wording before selecting a formula. Keep a compact sheet of units, symbols, standard equations and conditions under which each relationship applies.

Organise Mechanical Engineering preparation

Mechanical candidates should create a separate technical map covering the subjects named in the official syllabus. Important preparation blocks may include engineering mechanics, strength of materials, theory of machines, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, power plant engineering, manufacturing, machine design, materials, refrigeration and air conditioning, industrial engineering and production-related topics.

Prioritise understanding over repeated passive reading. In thermodynamics and heat transfer, draw the process or system before calculating. In fluid mechanics, identify the flow conditions and units. In strength of materials and machine design, record assumptions and failure criteria. In manufacturing, compare processes by material, accuracy, production scale and practical use. Technical questions become easier when each formula is linked to a physical meaning and an engineering decision.

Do not neglect Chhattisgarh General Studies

Technical candidates sometimes focus almost entirely on their branch. Paper I can become a major differentiator. Revise Indian history, geography, the Constitution, governance, economy, environment, science, computers, current affairs and sports. Give equal attention to Chhattisgarh’s geography, climate, rivers, minerals, forests, agriculture, economy, tribes, culture, administration, local government, energy, education, health and current events.

A practical weekly cycle is to study one national topic and one Chhattisgarh topic each day, then complete a short mixed quiz. Maintain a current-affairs notebook with dates, institutions, schemes and locations. For State-specific questions, avoid relying only on generic national examination material because the official syllabus explicitly gives Chhattisgarh content a distinct place.

Practise both speed and accuracy

Two full papers require stamina, even when the questions are objective. Begin with subject-wise practice to identify knowledge gaps. Move to timed technical sections, then combine Paper I and Paper II under realistic conditions. After each session, classify mistakes as concept gaps, calculation slips, unit errors, rushed reading or avoidable guesses.

For Electrical candidates, review numerical problems involving circuits, machines, systems and measurements. For Mechanical candidates, review calculations involving mechanics, thermodynamics, fluids, design and production. Keep a mistake register that records the correct principle, not just the correct option. Reattempt missed questions after revision so that practice becomes a learning loop instead of a score-counting exercise.

Prepare beyond the written paper

The recruitment process includes the selection stages prescribed in the official advertisement, including an interview where applicable. Electrical candidates should be ready to explain power reliability, safety, distribution, energy efficiency and basic public infrastructure issues. Mechanical candidates can revise maintenance, equipment reliability, public works machinery, energy use and practical engineering decisions. Both groups should understand the responsibilities of an Assistant Engineer in a State department and be able to explain technical concepts clearly to a non-specialist panel.

Keep educational certificates, identity records, category or domicile documents and application details organised according to the Commission’s instructions. Since the 2026 examination has already been conducted, candidates should distinguish preparation for this cycle’s remaining stages from preparation for a future notification.

Use targeted digital practice

Easy-Quizzz practice should follow the weakness identified by your review. Use Electrical or Mechanical topic sets for technical gaps, Chhattisgarh quizzes for Paper I, mixed tests for subject switching and timed simulations for endurance. Revisit every repeated error and update the revision plan rather than simply taking more tests.

The strongest plan is disciplined and branch-specific: master the common General Studies paper, select the correct technical syllabus, practise with units and assumptions in mind, use the amended final model answer for responsible post-exam analysis and monitor CGPSC for the next official stage or recruitment cycle.
