If you want to pass your driving test you need to know how to prepare. You need to know the best test prep books, you need to know how to study, and you need to know how to get ready for the test.

Many people fail to pass their driving test because they didn’t prepare enough. They thought that by using test prep materials, they would magically get themselves ready to pass the test. But unfortunately, it just doesn’t work like that. If you don’t prepare yourself properly, you will fail your driving test, no matter what test prep materials you use.

In this guide, I’m going to share with you my personal tips on preparing for your driving test. And if you follow my advice, I guarantee that you will pass your test.

What are the types of driving licenses in the ACT?

The ACT Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issues the following types of licenses:

Learner’s Permit

A learner’s permit allows you to learn to drive in a supervised environment. You must be at least 16 years old to apply for a learner’s permit.

Provisional license

A provisional license allows you to drive on public roads but only when accompanied by a licensed driver who is over 21 years old, who has held his or her license for more than two years and who occupies the front passenger seat. One other person may also occupy this seat if they are over 21 years old and hold their provisional license for at least two years. The RTA will issue a probationary license after you pass your driving test.

Full license

An full license allows you to drive any vehicle without supervision or restriction on the classes of vehicles that you can drive.

The ACT requires that you have held your learner’s permit for at least 6 months before you can apply for the provisional license. The ACT also requires you to pass a Hazard Perception Test, which can only be done by booking an appointment at one of their Service Centres.

You may also need to complete driving lessons with an approved instructor and take a theory test before applying for your provisional license.

What are the eligibility criteria to get the ACT Provisional license?

To apply for an ACT provisional license, you must be at least 17 years old.

  • You must be a resident of the ACT and hold a drivers license from another Australian state or territory (or a foreign license).

  • You will need to provide evidence of this when you apply.

To get your provisional license in the ACT, you must pass the following tests:

  • Vision test: drive safely while wearing corrective lenses or contact lenses if necessary.

  • Knowledge test: demonstrate an understanding of road rules and safe driving practices.

How to get a provisional license in the ACT?

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has strict laws regarding the licensing of drivers. It is important that you understand what is required to get your provisional license and how long you will be able to drive on this license.

What can I drive with the provisional driving license?

In the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), provisional driving licenses are issued to people who are 17 years and over. They last for two years but can be renewed for another year if you’re still under 21.

You can drive any vehicle that is not classified as a heavy vehicle. This includes:

  • Cars, station wagons, and four-wheel drives up to 3.5 tonnes GVM (gross vehicle mass)

  • Buses up to 12 seats including the driver’s seat (excluding some special purpose vehicles)

What do you need to know about provisional license ACT?

A license is not valid until you have passed the practical driving test.

Drivers must hold a Provisional license for at least 12 months before they can apply for their Full license. If you are under 18 years of age, your Provisional license is only valid for three years. After this time period, you will have to apply for a Full license.

The conditions of your Provisional license will be displayed on the front of the card itself and include:

  • A requirement to display P-plates prominently on your vehicle at all times when driving;

  • A zero blood-alcohol limit;

  • A restriction on carrying passengers aged under 21 years in your vehicle; and

  • A requirement to display red on white P Plates on your vehicle if you are a P Plate holder (see below for details).
