What are the classes of driving licenses in Alberta?
There are 7 different classes or types of driver’s licenses in Alberta.
Class 1: This is the license for all motor vehicles and combinations of vehicles and can be obtained with the minimum age of 18.
Class 2: This is the license for all motor vehicles and combinations of vehicles and can be obtained with the minimum age of 18.
Class 3: This is the license for the motor vehicle with 3 or more axles or a vehicle with 3 or more axles pulling a trailer with one or more axles and can be obtained with the minimum age of 18.
Class 4: This is the license for trucks with more than two axles and can be obtained with the minimum age of 18.
Class 5: This is the license for full passenger-vehicle license. It has 2 types known as GDL and non-GDL license/ Probationary license and can be obtained with the minimum age of 16.
Class 6: This is the license for motorcycles with no restrictions and can be obtained with the minimum age of 16.
Class 7: This is the license for new drivers to drive under certain conditions and can be obtained with the minimum age of 14.
