License Class 1

  • Permits to drive the vehicles of class license types 2, 3, 4, and 5.

  • License holder can drive a truck tractor, a truck tractor towing a semi-trailer and a trailer.

License Class 2

  • Can tow a towed vehicle up to 4500 kg GVM without air brakes

License Class 6

  • Permits to drive the motorcycles

  • Any vehicles of class 9

  • Any vehicles of Classes 6D

License Class 7

  • Permits to drive the vehicles of the license holder of class 5 except class 9 vehicles

  • The minimum age requirement of this license type is 16 years of age.

License Class 8

  • This is also called a farm tractor license

  • The minimum age requirement of this license type is 14 years of age.

License Class 9

  • Permits to drive the farm tractor and motor-driven vehicle.

  • The motor-driven cycle should be 50 ccs or under

  • The minimum age requirement of this license type is 16 years of age

What is Class 8 in NB?

A Class 8 farm truck driving license in New Brunswick allows you to drive a motor vehicle or combination of vehicles with a registered gross weight of more than 11,797 kilograms (26,000 pounds). This includes towed trailers weighing less than 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds).

A Class 8 farm truck driving license applies only to the operation of a farm truck and does not allow you to operate other commercial vehicles.

Who can acquire a New Brunswick Class 8 driving license?

To be eligible for a Class 8 license (learner’s permit), applicants must:

  • Be at least 14 years of age.

  • Have parental consent, if under 18.

  • Pass vision screening (20/40 best eye).
